CNN RECOGNIZES “HERO OF THE YEAR” NOMINEE: DR. ANDREW MOORE, FOUNDER OF SURGERY ON SUNDAY

LEXINGTON, KY – Cable news station CNN recently selected noted Lexington surgeon Dr. Andrew Moore, founder of Surgery on Sunday, to be one of the “Hero of the Year” nominees. Earlier in February, CNN came to Lexington to interview Dr. Moore and learn more about Surgery on Sunday, and the impact this grassroots organization has made to improve the lives of thousands throughout Kentucky and several surrounding states.
Surgery on Sunday, Inc. was founded by Dr. Moore in 2005 as a non-profit organization that provides outpatient surgical services for those who cannot afford insurance and are not eligible for federal or state programs. Patients are referred from existing organizations in the community and receive much needed medical procedures that can range from dental work to general operations to reconstructive procedures. “In today’s world, many people in America simply do not have adequate medical coverage,” Dr. Moore said. “This means that basic outpatient medical procedures are out of reach for thousands of people.”
Surgery on Sunday’s volunteer doctors, nurses, medical social workers, and office staff conduct a free surgical clinic once a month – on the third Sunday of each month – in Lexington at Surgical Care Affiliates; Lexington Surgical Center, near St. Joseph’s Hospital on Harrodsburg Road. Since 2005, Surgery on Sunday has served over 3,000 clients throughout Kentucky and surrounding states.
